Session 6: Insulin Hyper-Production as a Risk Factor for Diabetes

This lecture will examine the evidence, both clinical and pre-clinical data, that implicates hyperinsulinemia in diabetes. First, we will discuss how excess circulating insulin can drive obesity and insulin resistance. Second, we will present a hypothesis and supporting data that genetic and environmental factors which increase insulin production early in life also predispose individuals to type 1 diabetes.
